Lately I have been so focused on remodeling my house and kitchen that cooking (and writing) has taken a backseat! Tonight was PB&J's and Campbell's soup because I spent the day freaking out over how much it costs to reface cabinetry and just didn't have the heart to cook. 6K? Really?? I'm thinking of changing my blog to The Kitchen (and Home) Remodel Fast and Cheap Authority!
The whole thing started innocently enough; I like to work from home. I have no problem with Parts 1, 2 & 3 of my job (1-writing cooking demonstrations and sales pitches, 2-repping kitchen products to shopping channels and 3-training on-air guests) because I am either not home or am pretty much contained in the controlled chaos of my office...ok, it's more chaos than control but hey, no one sees it but me. It's Part 4 of my job (and Part 1 of my husband's job) that's the problem; shooting video for TV, Web and Retail with our home as the location. No hiding chaos, or dated furnishings, from millions of viewers and shoppers!
We have shot hundreds of videos in our home over the past 10 years but it's time for an updated look. In fact, it's pretty much mandated. Enter the "TV-Friendly Remodel" that I have jumped feet-first into and obsessed over for the past 2 months. Slowly but surely, my warm, sort-of formal and plush, Italian-wine-country-Inn inspired decor is transforming into a neutral-colored, casual-chic feel with a contemporary, modern and somewhat transitional vibe. I'm liking it!
First, we started with the front of the house: Dining Room, Living Room and Entryway/Foyer. Let me preface by saying that because everything-culinary dominates my world, I had flip-flopped the rooms making the larger, should-have-been living room into the dining room and vice versa. Returning the rooms to their proper locale was the first big change. Naturally I did this 3 days before hosting Easter dinner so that 10 people were jammed into the small room while the larger room stood empty...oh sure, it was "intimate". What was I thinking?
I have to admit that I have mixed emotions about this transformation; after all, my homes' furnishings are an extension of myself, my travels and my family. I have an attachment to many of my "things" and it's hard to just toss them onto Craig's List and see them go home with strangers. But in the end, "things" are just "things"and its refreshing to clean house (literally). It makes you realize what is really important and... I get to go shopping!
Anyway...don't expect any recipe-related info coming your way anytime soon! Between Jobs 1, 2 & 3 and continuing on my TV-Friendly Remodel so that I can get back to Job 4...cooking is OUT and take-out is IN!
Stay tuned for The Kitchen (and Home) Remodel Fast and Cheap Authority blog post #1...The Dining Room. Here's a peek of the "After"....
